Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology

Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology (SMIT) was established in 1997 and is a constituent college of Sikkim Manipal University. The engineering college has its own campus at Majitar, Rangpo, near the West Bengal and Sikkim border.
The Institute attracts students from all over the country, with 1700 plus students enrolled in the various engineering disciplines. 102 full time faculty are on hand to deliver quality education. The campus is self sufficient and also provides hostel facilities to both boys and girls. State-of-the-art infrastructure, a well stocked library, technical labs set up in collaboration with industry, industry-interaction, and a placement cell, and closeness to nature makes it one of the best engineering institutes in the country today.

1. Clinical fees to be paid by MBBS students from the 2nd year onwards.
2. Onetime fees payable for registration, Medicare and I-Card during admission in 1st year only.
3. No capitation fee is being collected from the students for admission in any courses of SMIMS.
4. Hostel fees of Rs, 25,000/- and Rs. 17,000/- for two seated and three seated accommodations respectively.
5. Mess utility Rs. 25,000/- per year.
6. Tution fees for NRI/Foreign category under M.Sc./Health Sciences is US $1,500 and Lab (other fees) US $ 500 per year remaining fees under this category for these courses are same as General Category to be paid by INR.
7. The fees structure is liable to change on decision of Governing Council.

PROGRAMS & ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

B.TECH COURSES

* Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council *All India Engineering Entrance Examination conducted by CBSE
# Undergraduate Entrance Test conducted by SMU.

Eligibility

1. All candidates must have passed (10+2) or equivalent with Physics (P) & Mathematics (M) as compulsory subjects and Chemistry or Computer Sciences (C) or Biotechnology, as one of the optional subjects. They must have secured a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate in these subjects to be considered for selection (45% for SC/ST).
2. A candidate with a diploma in the appropriate branch of engineering awarded by a State Board of Technical Education, and with at least 50% in aggregate in diploma is also eligible for admission to the first year of B Tech (45% for SC/ST) through entrance examination

Entrance Examinations

Candidates will have to appear for one of the entrance examinations depending upon the category under which they are seeking admission as mentioned in the table above. The details of these examinations are given in the succeeding paragraphs.

1. General Category, Defence, North East, DGHC: The candidates will have to appear for the AIEEE to be conducted by the CBSE. The candidates are also required to fill up the SMIT admission form and submit the same to SMIT by 15 June, 2006. They will be given a Registration No. by SMIT. Candidates should intimate their AIEEE ranking to SMIT by July 01, 2006 in order to be eligible for counseling and admission. Counseling will be conducted at SMIT on the dates mentioned separately in this prospectus. Please note that SMIT does NOT participate in the counseling carried out by Central Counseling Board of AIEEE.
   
2. Sikkim Category: Candidates should apply to the Director-Technical Education, Government of Sikkim. The Government of Sikkim will conduct an entrance examination, the details of which will be notified by the Director-Technical Education.
   
3. Foreign/NRI Category Students: Admissions will be based on SAT score/score in entrance test conducted by SMIT for NRI/Foreign students. Candidates should apply to SMIT on the prescribed admission form along with results of the qualifying examination equivalent to the 10+2 of CBSE.
   
4. UGET General Category: Candidates, seeking admission under this category will have to appear for an Under Graduate Entrance Test (UGET) that will be conducted by SMU. For detailed instructions on the UGET please refer to Appendix A. Candidates will have to pay an examination fee of Rs. 750.00 for appearing in the UGET either for medical or for engineering in addition to the cost of the prospectus i.e. Rs. 400.00. Candidates appearing for both i.e. medical or for engineering in addition to the cost of the prospectus i.e Rs. 400.00. Candidates who downloaded the form from our website should send a D.D of Rs. 1,150.00 (Rs. 750.00 examination fee and Rs. 400.00 as prospectus fee) to the Director, Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology.
   

FIVE YEARS INTEGRATED B TECH_ MBA PROGRAM

SMIT offers an integrated B.Tech-MBA Programme of five years duration. Students enrolled for this programme will be awarded B.Tech degree from Sikkim Manipal University after successful completion of four years of B.Tech Programme and an integrated B.Tech-MBA Degree after completion of fifth year of the program. During their B.Tech program students will be required to earn additional credits for the syllabus covering MBA subjects. The final year will be completely devoted to studies for MBA.

Admissions to this program are merit-based. An Aptitude Test and Group Discussions will be conducted at SMIT after completion of the second semester of the B.Tech leg.

The fees for this course will be Rs. 20,000/- additional per year for the B Tech leg of the course. Fees for the MBA leg (fifth year) will be the same as for second year of the MBA program. Students withdrawing from the MBA leg will have to pay the fee for the fifth year of the integrated program.

Eligibility

Same as for the B.Tech program.

M TECH PROGRAMS

Eligibility

1. M Tech (Information Technology/Computer Engineering) Degree in Engineering or M Sc in Mathematical Sciences or MCA with a minimum of 60% marks.
   
2. M Tech. (Power Electronics/Digital Electronics & Advanced Communications)Degree in Electrical/Electronics & Communication/Telecommunication/ Instrumentation Engineering, as applicable, with a minimum of 60% marks.
   
3. M Tech Mechanical EngineeringDegree in Mechanical Engineering, with a minimum of 60%marks.

Preference will be given to GATE qualified candidates. Any unsubscribed seats after admission of GATE qualified candidates will be filled up on the basis of an entrance test to be conducted by the Institute on its campus.

Several teaching assistantships are awarded to deserving candidates enrolled in the M Tech Course.
